In winning the Grand Prix at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival (IFFMH) in 1964, Jan Nemec’s drama _Démanty noci_ (Diamonds of the Night) became the first Czechoslovak New Wave film to receive an internationally recognized award.
